New Office Hours:

Monday to Friday – 9:00am to 5:00pm

Previously 8:30am to 5:00pm

RBA Cash Rate Cut: What It Means for Investors, Buyers, and Sellers

In February, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) met and made a significant change to the national financial landscape. The cash rate target was reduced by 0.25 percentage points, bringing it down to 4.1 per cent.

What is the cash rate target?

The cash rate is the interest rate the RBA sets to influence how much commercial banks charge each other to borrow money. In turn, this affects:

  • Mortgage rates
  • Savings account interest
  • Investment loan costs
  • Credit card interest rates

However, it's worth noting that a change in the cash rate doesn't automatically mean your home loan repayments will change. Each bank or lender decides how much of the change they pass on to customers.

How does this affect you?

  • For investors and landlords: A lower cash rate may lead to better borrowing conditions, potentially encouraging portfolio growth or renovations.
  • For buyers: This could signal improved affordability if banks reduce lending rates, although property demand may rise in response.
  • For sellers: Lower interest rates can increase buyer confidence, potentially boosting property competition and prices.
