Rental Reforms NSW

Consultation on Pets and Domestic Violence in Tenancies

"The NSW Government is seeking community feedback from the real estate industry, tenants and housing groups on two public consultations relating to residential tenancy laws, and whether any improvements should be made for people living in rental properties."

The 2019 reformed laws allowed people to immediately terminate their leases to escape domestic violence and to not be liable for any damage caused from the perpetrator during the domestic violence offence. This allows tenants facing domestic and family violence to not face any break lease or end of tenancy barriers.

This reform is open to all parties such as tenants, property managers and landlords to have their say to whether tenancy laws should be changed or any other feedback or suggestions in relation to these rental matters.

The consultations are open until 2 December 2022
